There are many internship opportunities throughout the year at Danforth Art. Responsible, reliable and energetic interns will receive invaluable behind-the-scenes experience as they assist Danforth Art staff on a wide variety of projects.
Interns are accepted on an ongoing basis. We will work with each intern to design a program that will meet his or her academic needs and experience. Listed below are some of the roles that interns may fill.
Curatorial Interns assist with collections and archives management, handling of artwork, research and collections care. Art History or Studio Art major required.
School of Art Interns gain experience in all aspects of the School. They assist with overall program facilitation during the fall, winter or spring semesters, and work both in the office and in the classroom. Tasks include classroom preparation, greeting and directing new students to classrooms, organizing and stocking art supplies, answering the phones, taking registrations, copying, filing and assisting teachers during classes or special programming. Computer and art studio experience preferred.
Fall, Winter or Spring, 5-15 hours per week
School of Art Summer Interns assist during our very busy SummerArts for Children programming, gaining experience working in all aspects of the School, including administrative and possible teaching opportunities. Tasks include classroom preparation; assisting teachers with children’s art activities; planning and facilitating extended day, lunch and break activities; and organizing and stocking art supplies. Interns also assist with overall program facilitation, helping the office staff by answering phones, greeting and directing students to classrooms and taking registrations. Ceramics Program: Interns with wheelthrowing expertise needed!
Experience with studio art and children preferred.
June through August, 3-5 days a week
Museum Education Interns research upcoming exhibitions, assist with the creation and implementation of education programs for children, teens, and/or adults, and help evaluate education programs. Art History, Art or Art Education, Psychology majors preferred.
Finance Interns assist the Director of Finance with the collection, organization and analysis of financial benchmarking data; general ledger data analysis and reporting; and updating of procedures manuals and forms. College or graduate level Business or Finance background required.
Marketing/Development Interns assist with mailing projects, social media, collecting and entering data, and graphic design projects. Marketing, Communications or Design major preferred.
Visitor Services Interns help to assure a positive visitor experience at the Museum. Tasks include creating lobby and gallery signs, merchandising of the Museum Shop, recording visitor information, and assisting with lobby desk and at special events. Outgoing personality and experience in customer service preferred.
