Educators' Open House - August 27, 2009

The Danforth Museum of Art welcomed public and private educators of all grade levels to the second annual Educators’ Open House on Thursday, August 27, 2009.

At the 2009 event teachers had the opportunity to:

Tour the 2009 New England Photography Biennial.
Experience a drawing workshop with artist and teacher Susan Parker.
Advance possibilities of art in the classroom with Art-on-the-Move kits.
Check out illustrations by Peter Reynolds, author and illustrator of The Dot and Ish.
Hear about the new Meta Warrick Fuller Program.

Educators' Evening - September 25, 2008

Local elementary school teachers attended the Danforth Museum of Art's first Educators’ Evening on September 25, 2008. Attendees enjoyed light refreshments while learning about current and upcoming exhibitions, and their connections to the classroom. Special focus was placed on upcoming exhibitions featuring Sedrick Huckaby, Faith Ringgold, Jacob Lawrence, and Meta Fuller.

Featured Speakers (September 2008)

Katherine French - The Director of the Danforth Museum of Art presented an overview of upcoming exhibits, the connections between the artists, and their contribution to the Museum’s educational mission.

Barry Gaither - Since 1969, Edmund Barry Gaither has been Director and Curator of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists (NCAAA). He developed the Museum from a concept to an institution celebrating the visual arts heritage of black people worldwide.

Diane Daily - As the Education Programs Manager at the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Diane Daily will share her expertise on applying to grants that support creative learning in schools. Local cultural council grant forms will be available.
